Hidden within Pacific Northwest forests, ancient Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir treasures await rediscovery. For more than 25 years, the partners of TD Wood Recovery have combed rugged hillsides to find and recover these natural riches. We salvage old-growth wood only from non-living sources, such as windfalls and the stump and slab remnants of historic logging operations. Old-growth wood is a finite, non-renewable resource. Recovering this incredible material from non-living sources enables us and generations to come to enjoy the unsurpassed beauty and quality of these ancient trees while respecting the old-growth forests that continue to grow.
Ours is a small family owned and operated business based in Northwest Washington. We are committed to providing the highest quality wood material and products, making the best use of these natural resources, and recovering material in a manner that is respectful of the forests we value and upon which we depend.
Our recovery process begins with a hike across acres of forest and hillsides to locate suitable wood sources. We prepare materials for removal using hand-held tools (axes, chainsaws, etc.). Next, we hire a small helicopter to airlift materials from hillsides to existing road systems for truck transport to our partner mill, ______________________ , and other local craftsmen. The base of stumps, their rootwad and other woody material are left onsite to serve valuable habitat and ecological purposes.
